A rare, refined and spectacular ultra-lightweight self-winding carbon and quartz fiber wristwatch from Swiss haute horlogerie brand Richard Mille, founded in 2001 by entrepreneurs Dominique Guenat and Richard Mille. The reference was launched in 2018. Carbon and quartz fiber case, 38.7 x 47.5 mm, 7.8 mm thick, sapphire caseback. Openworked dial with applied luminous indexes, luminous hands and hand-painted flange with the colors of the German flag representing tennis player Alexander Zverev. Caliber CRMA7, skeletonized, mainplate and bridges in titanium, self-winding with carbon fiber rotor with white gold oscillating weight, power reserve of up to 50 hours. Functions - display of time in hours and minutes. Red and black elastic Velcro strap. Weight 32 grams with strap.
Richard Mille is widely known as a master of ultra-light watches. In particular, the brand has set a record with the RM 27-01 'Rafael Nadal', the lightest watch in the world, weighing 18.83 grams. The RM 67-02 series, produced as an ultra-light sports version of the slim automatic watch RM 67-01, is also the lightest self-winding watch in the world, weighing 32 grams including the strap. The RM 67-02 was launched in 2017 in two versions dedicated to athletes who collaborate with the brand: Mutaz Essa Barshim, a Qatari high sweater, and Wayde van Nieker, a South African track and field sprinter. In 2017, the brand signed a partnership agreement with tennis player Alexander Zverev and the following year presented a special version of the RM 67-02 dedicated to him.
The value of Richard Mille watches on the secondary market is also increasing. This is especially true for this model, which is far above the level of the official retail price.
The RM 67-02 'Alexander Zverev' watch has a distinctive look with a dark grey bezel showing the texture of carbon fiber composite, a red case ring, a red and black strap and a black skeletonized caliber complemented by a yellow and red dial outline. This is meant to represent the colors of the German flag for which Zverev plays. Interestingly, he appeared on the tennis court at the beginning of the collaboration with the RM 27-02 watch known as 'Nadal' and it was only in 2018 that he received his own version of the RM 67-02, which, as we learn from a press release on the occasion of the launch of this watch, has an "Alexander Zverev" engraving on the caseback. As far as we can see, all other examples of the RM 67-02 'Alexander Zverev' that are on the market, including this watch, don't have this engraving. Alexander Zverev is one of the best tennis players in the world and always shows up at tennis tournaments with the RM 67-02 'Alexander Zverev' watch on his wrist, which is one of the must-haves of the Richard Mille marketing campaign.
The brand knows how to create appealing concepts, which is very evident in this model. The status of the lightest automatic wristwatch is complemented by the fact that it's one of the thinnest Richard Mille watches, which, given its sporty design, makes it a very rare representative of the genre that combines striking sportiness with elegance.
Nowadays we're witnessing the incredible growth of Richard Mille watches popularity. According to the results of 2022, the brand ranks sixth in the Morgan Stanley world best watch brands rating and is one of the most dynamically developing brands in the top ten of the rating. The value of Richard Mille watches on the secondary market is also increasing. This is especially true for this model, which is far above the level of the official retail price. Therefore, the RM 67-02 Automatic Winding Extra Flat 'Alexander Zverev' would be an excellent buy for the collector who wants a very attractive, sporty and rare self-winding wristwatch from a world-renowned watch brand that is one of the undisputed leaders in the haute horlogerie segment. The combination of a world record in the category of the lightest automatic watch, an impressive design with a thin case and an impressive sporty appearance, as well as the good performance of tennis player Alexander Zverev, who actively promotes the brand and this model, contribute significantly to the attractiveness of this lot.
